I’ve been thinking a lot about how job seekers can stand out in a crowd. I wrote about it last week and suggested that it is not as difficult as you might think. Today, I’m adding a new feature to my blog and trying video blogging for the first time. Bear with me on the lighting issues! Hopefully, the tips will make up for my lack of a camera operator and high-tech studio!

Great video blog. LaSalle recommends these same tips to our job seekers! Loved the tip on setting a Google alert of the name or company title – I will certainly be using this in the future!

Megan – Thanks so much! I’m glad to know we’re on the same page! Appreciate the note!

Good to see you experimenting with video, Miriam. I’m getting ready to do the same on JobMob. I got a Flip HD and I’ve been learning about lighting. Now I just need my 7-month-old to start sleeping nights so I don’t look like I’m always hung over. That, or I’ll have to delve into the Art of Makeup.

Jacob – Thanks! My other advice – go “hip” and dark – forget the lights! I actually had several people say that they LIKED the lighting! :-) Can’t wait to see your videos!

Thanks for the tip, but my desk faces a window overlooking the sea. It would effort to get rid of the light :)

Also, keep in mind that older people/people with eyesight problems will have a harder time watching you i.e. they won’t. The same reason to not have a white-text-on-black-background blog.
