Interesting times. Yes, it's all economics but employers who slap themselves on the back for acquiring great talent at an unbelievably low price will find retention to be a major issue. Displaced high performers may temporarily accept roles with low comp but will have their eyes on opportunities with improved pay and will move on rather than indefinitely settle for poor pay. The companies will end up with increased turnover and chaos. All part of a normal healthy economic machine but ultimately, there is "no free lunch" for either party.

In reply to <a href="https://www.keppiecareers.com/after-a-lay-off-dont-fall-into-these-traps/#comment-56070">Data Recovery</a>.

Data Recovery - Thanks for your comment. Keep in mind this post was written in 2008, so it wasn't really addressing today's market! I do maintain most recruiters would still be suspicious of any job seeker willing to take "any" job, even in this economy. (Based on recruiters I know and follow.)

As a recruiter I totally disagree on your belief about pay cuts.. In todays market salaries are coming down all across the board as supply outweighs demand. So you may be sitting on the sidelines for a long time if you're stuck to believing in yesterdays salary ranges.
