Nepotism is alive and well. And in spite of our allergy to it, there's a lot to be said for it. Yesterday's NYTimes had a fascinating article on the subject. People growing up in the families of achieving professionals often achieve themselves. And some of our greatest senators, for example, had no legislative experience prior to their appointment or election to the senate.

One thing is clear--most of us have to take the reins of our career. The underlying task of career development is superb network--then build upon that!

The NYTimes article refers to the book on nepotism, written by Adam Bellow, the son (naturally) of Saul Bellow, the great American writer. The article is called Welcome to the Family Business Here's the linktp://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/21/weekinreview/21murphy.html?_r=1&scp=6&sq=caroline%20kennedy&st=cse

It's an important eye-opener.
