Another thing that i want to encourage potential job seekers to use is www.jobrap.com. It is platform that job seekers (and providers) can use to connect with relevant connections (from their social networks and the bigger jobrap network as well) who can help out in the job search process. It also enables HR folks from various companies to engage with potential job seekers before the person actually applies for the job.

Not to discard Chris's role as a recruiter but I found the best way to get a job wasn't via LinkedIn and social networking sites (although your points here are very relevant), it was via niche job boards.

I hated my job but while I was looking for an academic role I found a specific site that tailors exclusively to me (it was www.unijobs.com for those still searching for employment). Thereâ€s others for nurses and blue collar work, you just have to look.

Those big ones are just too broad and include openings that have no relevance to me..
