Perhaps people forget that a lacklustre attitude does not earn more – would I pay someone more for doing an average job??

To this I would add that if you ask for a raise in salary and the answer is no, then make a plan with your manager so that if you complete x,y,z within x time, then you receive a raise of y. It’s a win:win.
