Hey Miriam - Really like this post! Creating awareness of your place in the local job search community is a great objective. I think this can be done with good works (helping others), the creation of value (creating tools/templates that help others) and by building influence (subject matter expertise that can be shared via Twitter or a blog). I like John's point about listening first. Automatically puts you in a position to help. I think I'd like to read that book - next on the list!

In reply to <a href="https://www.keppiecareers.com/how-to-market-yourself-to-find-a-job/#comment-909">DC Jobs</a>.

DC Jobs - Thank you for saying that. Making a half-hearted attempt, or worrying about how much time to spend, often derails the whole thing. There is certainly no magic bullet or pill, but there is certainly a lot of upside potential for those who give it a good effort! I appreciate your comment!

I like the way that you break down the reasons for using social media in your job hunt tool kit. I feel that with some people, if you twist their arm to try something new like "social media" for instance, they will often make a half-hearted stab at it and when it doen't wind up having much of an effect, saying "see, it didn't help".

Social Media is not a magic pill that you can swallow to make all your problems go away. But it's a powerfull tool, and if you embrace it and get good at it, it can work wonders!
