During my senior year, my friend and I decided we were interested in health care, so we got our EMT-Basic license. After two months of night classes (two nights per week), we were working in a hospital full-time. We weren't just filing papers. We were taking blood, helping out in the ER, going on ambulance runs, and doing triage. This was no office job, and we were getting paid to do it. I decided the field wasn't for me, but my roommate is now a doctor. I think this is one of the best ways to get into the profession because a) not many people do it and b)it has a high turnover rate because of burnout, which means there is almost always job. If you contact any hospital or fire department, they can point you to EMT classes in the area.
