Jacqui – Thanks! I always preach the importance of resume “real estate.” I always told my students at Emory that they needed to be willing to “pay for” each word on their resumes, as if they were old-fashioned personal ads. If the word doesn’t have value, it’s a waste of space, effort and energy!

Interestingly, in an age of personal branding, it can sometimes seem like it’s all about “me, me, me.” Yet, even here, people with the strongest brands really understand the needs and wants of their audience and adapt their messages appropriately.

As you know, I’ve been doing a lot of work in helping people tell their story. Sure does seem self- absorbed; yet, even here, the focus always needs to be on what will resonate with your audience – making your story, paradoxically, a tool that benefits others!
