Maggie - Thanks for your comment. When I wrote this, I was thinking of your mantra - "soul search, research, job search." It's good to have your thoughts and expertise. Thanks for your comment!

Love tip #4 - give before you get. Too often people wait until they need something to reach out. Take care of others FIRST and they will take care of you.

I would like to piggyback off Mary Kaye's comment too and add "Soul Search before job search" and figure out not only what you offer and what you need but WHAT YOU WANT.

Spend time reflecting on how you most want to use your skills to contribute in the workplace or in the world. When you align you passion and purpose with your work opportunities open up for you.

Great post Miriam! Love Steve Boese and Laurie Ruettimann too!

Great steps to finding a job. I especially like #5, keep doing it! As you go through the job hunt and learn more about what companies want, circle back and identify what else you have to offer, find even more companies that might be interested in your services, and refine your marketing materials to reflect this.

I would also insert another step before your step #1, and call it, "Identify what you need". Before you begin a search know exactly what is essential for you. Is it a minimum salary, work location or a flexible schedule? Be sure you understand why these are non-negotiable for you. Then you'll feel grounded in your job search and will focus on pursuing the right opportunities.
