In reply to McJ. I guess the skills depend on your field. The "general" skills are those relating to demonstrating your expertise online. Generally, I refer to using LinkedIn, being adept online, having and using a Twitter account and maintaining an online presence (even a website) when I talk generally about skills. So, it sound like, if you are doing things well, you are off to a good start.

In reply to McJ. McJ - I think it sounds like you are doing a great job keeping your skills up-to-date, but it always depends on your target audience. Keep a close eye on job descriptions that interest you, and be sure your skills are a good match.

I continue to read about Baby Boomers needing to learn new skills. Can someone tell me what those skills are? Although a Plant Physiologist with 3 degrees, I have learned to create and design websites, I use all the Social Media, I also continue to take courses in other areas such as Strategic Marketing, Negotiation Skills, etc. Online and mainstream media continue to churn out blogs and articles on the need to learn new skills, with very little detail of what are the needed skills.

I agree with you 100%. I am a physician working on a careere change. I believe home based business is the way to go and social networking is the current way of getting to know people and letting them know you.
